Well here we are again with another update from Irish Diplomacy. Twice in 2 months, for me that is a big deal. But enough about me tooting my own horn. As you will recall in the last entry, our engine was once again out of the boat for further repairs, in fact a completely new rebuild due to a failure of a part on the previous rebuild. Good news here...........the engine has once again been put back together, it's purring like a kitten, and thus far, there has been no signs of anything worrisome. That of course means......it's almost time to leave.
There has been mega business travel for myself over the last few months, with me spending almost the entire month of June in the Calgary area. There was a good side to that; I managed to be up in Canada for both my niece Mandy's convocation from the University of Lethbridge, and for my brother's 50th birthday. In case he happens to ever read this, it's not a dream or nightmare Ron, you really are 50. Holy crap.....that makes me............
I will once again be heading North in mid July for meetings and a trip to Ottawa, but at least on this trip, Kimberley will be able to come along for a little bit. That was the plan previously, but we all know what happens with best laid plans. Quite frankly they go to %^&.
Kimberley and I do have another trip planned for later on this summer that has both quite excited, and that is a cruise. What's that you say? You're taking a cruise? Yes, we live on a boat and we're taking a cruise. Headed for Alaska in August. Doing the whole Disney Cruise thing again, and as it turns out, on the same ship we have already been on a few times, so we will know it well.
Getting the engine back in has been a real big deal for us. For the past year, we have felt a little tethered to single places as we have not wanted to strain the engine or cause further damage. Hopefully now, this will be a none issue and we can get back to the type of frequent movement, even if it is only day trips that we have always previously enjoyed.
We have certainly seen many friends come and go. Al and Swan from the vessel Swan Song now have her up for sale in Mazatlan and our planning land yacht adventures. Jan and Dwight from Mira are making their way up the west coast bound for home on the Columbia River. Last I heard they were a little west of Santa Barbara, anchored out and awaiting a window to pass Point Conception, a point of land that has eaten more than a few boats over the years and can experience weather that we are told can rival that of Cape Horn. That said, the three times Irish Diplomacy has rounded the cape, it has been flat and calm.
But as some friends head out, we also get re-acquainted with old friends such as Bill and Reyna on Ocean Quest, (and I use the term Old liberally....it's not a comment on Ocean Quest Bill turning 65 this year), maybe Kate and Gordon up in Puerto Escondido if they make a trip South to La Paz, and the many other friends we have made over the years.
It's all fun and games in Mexico. The sun shines bright, the cerveza cools you down, and sand is like silt between your toes.
Have a good summer. Will likely write again from the cruise ship.
